Why do I suddenly have the urge to turn an old rotary into a sprinkler?

It already is. It just sprays oil instead of water.

Because they were originally sewage pumps.

When you hydrolock a piston engine you break rods. What do you break when you hydrolock a rotary?

I’d say seals, there’s really nothing that can give way. It’s probably a brutal stop

Cave in and maybe break through the ‘bathtub’ of the combustion chamber, as well as wreck all the seals I’d imagine.

That said, it is essentially just a PD pump so hook your outlet up to the leading spark plug hole and go for it!
